What is Reiki and what does it do?
Rei (soul, spirit) + Ki (vital energy of everything) = Reiki (universal life force energy)
Here's the short explanation...
The word reiki means universal life-force energy. The same energy referred to by the word reiki is also called prana, qi or ch'i. It is available to all of us.
Reiki (with a capital R) refers to a gentle healing technique, developed by Mikau Usui. He found Reiki in Japan in the late 1800s when he injured himself and used his hands to encourage his own healing. Reiki is not connected to any religion. However, to some, it is a spiritual practice. There are 5 principles are associated with Reiki and for Reiki Masters, the principles inform how they live their lives. (Learn more.)
Reiki is based in the belief that we each have within us what we need to heal ourselves. It can be good for many conditions and situations since it is available to everyone and seeks only the highest good for all involved.

The practitioner acts as a channel that the energy flows through. The recipient is in full control of the energy being drawn in. Though Reiki works concurrently with your chakra system, it goes wherever it is needed.
A healing session is intended to provide relaxation to the recipient. It may be hands-on or hands hovering just above the recipient's body. There are many potential benefits of Reiki depending on what within the recipient could use healing.
